Wow – what an incredible weekend we had! Record breaking numbers of alpaca fans were counted coming through the farm gates, with well over 1200 people attending over the Saturday and Sunday! We were so pleased and grateful that so many of you came along to see us and support our event, so thank you all.
The weather man had not playing ball the week leading up to the open farm and had been forecasting a dreadful weekend of rain and thunder. So we quickly changed the plans for an all outdoor event and cleared space in the barn to make and undercover dry space for the stall holders ……and the Alpacas of course!! Then, would you believe it, but not a drop of rain was seen all weekend and we were blessed with sun and warm weather!
We had some amazing crafters and stall holders come along selling their wares from garden furniture, Glass items, Hats and accessories to Dog treats. The alpaca fibre spinning demonstrations from Gillian and the Bee’s stall with Gary were certainly firm favourites with everyone! Not to forget our local McCormack Tractor dealership very kindly brought over some tractors old and new that seemed to be a big hit with the children and quite a few big kids too!! A highlight of the weekend was on the Sunday when we had a fabulous falconry display from the crew at Fens Falconry who brought along some stunning birds of prey!
The Alpacas all fully enjoyed their weekend, which for them was like Christmas and new year rolled into one…. They had plenty of feed and treats and loved having lots of selfies with their fans!
The planning is already under way for the 2023 open weekend and we hope we can make it bigger and better fun family trip out! But, none of it is possible without a team….. and that biggest thanks goes out to a huge team of amazing volunteers and helpers who come together and make it all happen!
