New alpaca keeper workshop
£70pp or £130 per couple
This workshop is designed for prospective or new alpaca keepers with little or no prior experience of working with the animals.
It’s a great way to take a first step into alpacas and alpaca keeping and gives you the experience needed to help you decide if being an alpaca owner is for you.
Taking the plunge and buying alpacas involves a significant commitment and the objective of this workshop is to give you a hands on experience and all round basic knowledge of what to expect when becoming an alpaca owner.
It will give you an understanding of what level of time and care is needed to keep alpacas living happily and healthily on throughout the year.
The workshop is a half day experience which covers areas including:
Handling and herding
Health and treatments
Husbandry tasks, feet trimming and body scoring
Suitable environments
Routines and training
Costs of keeping alpacas
Buying alpacas
The workshop involves some outside field work therefore suitable clothing and footwear is essential – clothing suitable for the weather and that which you don’t mind getting wet or dirty. Attendees must be over the age of 16.
The workshop is run at various times times throughout the year and costs £70 per person or £130 per couple.
